Directorate of Government Printing, Stationery & Publications, Mumbai
The Government Printing and Stationery Department is under the administrative control of the Industries, Energy and Labour Department of the Government of Maharashtra. The Printing and Stationery Department is primarily a Service Department falling under the category of Departments which are necessary to and form part of the general conduct of the business of Government. However, with the object of maximum utilization of Government Presses and to ensure cost consciousness and greater sense of responsibility on the part of Government Departments sending material for printing to the Government Presses, Government has declared the Printing Department as a Commercial Department.

- Executing and supervising the printing and binding work of the Government of Maharashtra.
- Publication and sale of Government Publications, such as Maharashtra Government Gazette, Acts, Rules, Reports, Maps, Books on various topics – Scientific, Social and Cultural, etc.
- Supply of stationery articles, drawing material, clothing, umbrellas, bicycles, wall clocks and time-pieces, duplicators and Government publications to Government offices in the State.
- Repair to typewriters, duplicators, bicycles, clocks and time-pieces and quarterly servicing of typewriters in Government offices.
The Director, Government Printing and Stationery, is the Head of the Department, whose jurisdiction extends over the whole of the state in respect of the subjects mentioned above.

Government Typewriter Workshops
The Government Typewriter Workshops attend to the inspection and repair of typewriters, duplicators and the quarterly servicing of typewriters of the Government Offices in the Districts as shown below:

Government Book Depots
Government Book Depots sell Government Publications at the counters as well as supply them by Post (payment in advance). They also supply Government Publications to the Government offices in the Districts allotted to them, free of charge, as per rule 140 of the Maharashtra Contingent Expenditure Rules, 1965.
Some important Central Government publications are stocked and sold by the Government Book Depots at Mumbai, Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur.
